SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ALLEN FORD – 13.10.7
Today’s Saturday Pitstop spotlight turned on the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association with chair Wendy Way in the studio. Wendy explained how the association was founded two years ago in response to unsatisfactory public transport in the town, especially with no Sunday or evening bus services.
Since then a Sunday no. 73 service between Brentwood station and Bishops Hall is on six months trial from August this year. Other successes include the daily 498 bus between Brentwood and Romford centres, with the latest campaign being for this line to extend to Romford’s new Queens Hospital.
Between the town’s two railway stations, Brentwood station is the main focus of the association’s rail efforts. Operator One has treated it to a repaint and committed to the ticket office being open to 8pm Monday to Saturday.
Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association’s next AGM is on October 27 with all 85 members and the public welcome at the Old House, in Brentwood, at 10am. Association membership costs £5 a year or £3 or OAPs, students and concessions. More from membership secretary Mike Preston on 01277 225301 or at www.bbarua.org.uk
Wendy Way’s chosen music played on today’s Saturday Pitstop was Paul Potts, Queen, ELO and Take That.
