Body Talk - 25th September



Tonight's guest was Louise Barrett, a Pilates Instructor and Physiotherapist. We talked about the benefits of regular exercise and Pilates in particular.

Pilates is a body conditioning programme targetting deep postural muscles and building strength from the inside out., rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It is based on the work of Joseph Pilates who pioneered the methods in 1920's New York. He worked with actors, dancers and athletes to build strength without adding  bulk. The aim is to balance strength with flexibility, acheiving perfect harmony between mind and body.

Each exercise is built around eight principles: Relaxation, concentration, Coordination, Centering, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina and Flowing Movements.

It is for anyone who wants to improve general fitness, posture and appearance, whatever your age. Louise holds classes in Basildon, Billericay and Brentwood, and she also works one to one.
