PHOENIX FM'S SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ALLEN FORD - 21 JULY 2007

New Brentwood town centre manager Jane Ponder explained her role and expectations for Phoenix FM's home town.  Top of her 'to do' list since becoming Brentwood's first centre manager in May are enhancing the High Street, helping to preserve and improve the adjacent chapel ruins and drawing more specialist shops to Brentwood.

The High Street work is scheduled for 2008/9 and Brentwood Bishop Thomas McMahon has already backed plans to safeguard the high profile religious ruins.  A planning application for the William Hunter Way retail site is expected this month, which Jane hopes will go some way to satisfy calls for new shops to contribute to Brentwood's economic prospects.

She also talked about gateways to Brentwood such as the Brook Street M25/A12 junction leading up London Road and first impressions of the town for visitors arriving at Brentwood railway station.  More greenery and artwork would enhance the Brentwood welcome, Jane thought.

Music choice of Jane Ponder, Brentwood town centre manager, included Cecilia (Simon & Art Garfunkel), Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol) and Fast Car (Tracy Chapman).
