Body Talk - 10th July

My guest this week was Jo Cory, Sports Development Officer for Brentwood Council. She was giving us all the up to date info on how the council are encouraging us to stay fit and healthy. Jo works with many different groups of people in the community to encourage them to participate in sport and physical activity.

She is currently running a Boot Camp as part of the Crucial Crew project for school children. This has been a big success, I can speak with confidence about this as my son took part  and thoroughly enjoyed it. Many of you parents out there are probably getting similarly good feedback from your children, so keep up the good work Jo!

Brentwood Health Week was also one of Jo's projects, which ran in junior schools earlier this year. That too was a big success, giving children simple tips on how to stay healthy. Drink plenty of water, eat fruit and raw veg as snacks and go to bed on time. All sensible stuff, but it's great to hear it being reinforced in school, cos us parents know that kids don't listen to what we say.

The Festival of Sport which ran at the Brentwood Centre had over 1,000 visitors, which was great for a wet day. It gave everyone a chance to try out different sporting activities for FREE. That is due to run again next year on 23rd June.

Currently running is the Green Gym Project. Jo is looking for groups of less able people who need help with their garden. The idea is to get them involved with designing and cultivating their garden, and getting them out into the fresh air and having some gardening fun. If you know of or are a member of a group that you feel could benefit from this project then contact me and I'll pass your details on to Jo.

Summer Chill Out is school holiday fun for kids. There are lots of different activities planned for kids, both indoor and outdoor, to find out more again, contact me.

For anthing else that's going on in Brentwood, look in the Directory, it's free and available from Brentwood Council Offices.
