SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ALLEN FORD - June 30, 2007

Phoenix FM's Saturday Pitstop welcomed motoring correspondent of over 30 years Robin Roberts on the show.

After declaring he had a Nissan 350Z Roadster on test, Robin had to argue hard that his job wasn't all fast cars and glamour. Robin and Saturday Pitstop host Oliver divided their motoring discussion into four segments: fast, slow, eco and Robin's bugbears. His favourite current fast car is the £76,000 Audi R8, a 4.2-litre V8 being built in limited numbers. Best classic, Robin said, was Jaguar's E-Type. Slower, more affordable best buys are small-engined Vauxhalls, Fords and Peugeots. If they emit under 120 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilometre, tax is only £35 a year, listeners heard. The green debate covered hybrids, bioethanol-powered flexible fuel vehicles (meaning they run on sustainable biofuel where available or petrol mixed in the same tank) and hydrogen - the most likely transport fuel of the future. The bugbears of Robin Roberts, whose reviews are included in Essex's Yellow Advertiser series, are overtaxed motorists having to put up with Britain's increasingly deteriorating and congested roads.
