Body Talk - 26th June



Tonight my guest was Janet Pitcher, a sports and remedial massage therapist. Janet's career started in sport, with lots of gym work and long distance running. She gradually began to realise how all of this demanding exercise was stressing out her body, so she started to look at ways of releasing tension that would still enhance performance.

That's when she discovered the benefits of massage.She was so impressed with the results that she decided to take up massage herself, and trained with the London School of Sports Massage.

Her training gave her an in depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as covering other aspects of health such as nutrition. Her specialist area has been treating sports men and women up till now. She recently attended the Iron Man event, which is a combination of running, cycling and swimming. She massages the athletes before and after the event to make sure they stay in tip top condition. One of the athletes she treated came 4th in the event.

Janet has also attended many other sporting events and is available to give treatments and advice to any clubs that would like to find out more.

She is now also turning her attention to posture. We develop many bad habits over the years, and bad seated posture can be one of the biggest causes of stress in the body. Janet is now starting to go into businesses and advise on proper posture in the workplace. Many man hours are lost due to stress and tension issues, a good massage can help to alleviate problems and create a happier workforce.
