Body Talk - 19th June

Apologies to those of you who were expecting to hear all about Tai Chi this evening. That's had to be postponed to a later date.

Instead my guest this evening was Debbie Cornish who very bravely agreed to come in at the last minute and saved the day!

Debbie is a fitness instructor, and has been teaching classes locally for the past 17 years. She has seen many fitness fashion come and go, and been involved in teaching most of them, from aerobics to body conditioning to step. Her passion for keeping the body fit and healthy has now taken her down a different path, that of children's fitness.

Unfortunately in this computerised age, our children just don't get the exercise that they should. For many of them it sems boring in comparison to spending a few hours on a playstation or some other electronic game. Debbie is keen to educate children about their bodies, a healthy child stands a much better chance of developing into a healthy adult.

For this reason, Debbie decided that fitness for kids needs to be fun, which gave her the idea of starting a Cheerleading club. Cheerleading is becoming more popular with children across the country and Debbie runs a club in Hutton. It teaches the children many skills, such as co-ordination, balance and working as part of a team. In fact the children seem to be having so much fun that she's had requests from a few parents to start an adult cheerleading group. Watch this space!

If you have any questions on children's health and fitness, let me know. I can pass them on to Debbie who'll be happy to help if she can.
