Let's make sure that our homegrown talent gets the award she deserves! ![]() The day I met Pixie Lott Pixie Lott was at Brentwood County High School as part of the Department for Children School and Families (DCSF) ‘IN TUNE’ Year of Music campaign. Launched in September 2009 by Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children Schools and Families, the ambition is to bring together and showcase the wide range of music related experiences available to children and young people cross England, to encourage each of them - whatever their talent - to get involved in music. As the bell sounded for lesson one I watched as hundreds of children (Pixie gave two performances to a crowd of 600 plus) came into the school Sports Hann and sat down in row upon row. The buzz of excitement was deafening! Then the moment came and Pixie herself with her guitarist Ben came in. She was given a great introduction by the School Head Mrs Mason. When Pixie came in I have never seen so many people look so stunned. The pupils really didn’t believe it was actually going to happen and most of the teachers looked just as mesmerised by Pixie. Pixie went on to sing (as you will hear in the recordings) Cry Me Out (which was superb) - her pure voice and the acoustic guitar. A few covers followed, equally as good. Then a question and answer session hosted by Ed Wellman gave the pupils an opportunity to ask any questions to Pixie. The students asked Pixie all about how she had achieved her dream and what life is like for her; Jack from year 8 took this opportunity to ask her out on a date! Pixie answered all the questions brilliantly and received a massive applause after each song. The pupils liked the fact that the music was stripped back, which goes to prove a good song is a good song and a vocalist who can sing without studio auto tuning and loads of additional backing vocals is a great vocalist. All this fame has not suddenly appeared for this young woman from Brentwood, she has worked her socks off since the age of 5. She sings, dances, acts and she write her own songs. She just finished filming in LA too. This is just the beginning ... Three cheers for Pixie Lott, her crew and everyone at Brentwood County High School.
