Body Talk - 26th Jan Tonight's show was all about sleep. Are you getting enough? It's commonly thought that we need about 8 hours per night, and according to the latest studies they seem to have come up with the same conclusion. Most of us need about 6 to 8 hours. Women apparently need more, although only twenty minutes, which in the overall scheme of things doesn't sem to be an awful lot. Women suffer more with sleep difficulties for a variety of reasons. We worry more, and so our problems keep us awake or give us disturbed sleep. Also noisy partners can be to blame. So if your partner snores it could be causing more distress than you realise. Some lucky people can survive on only four hours. Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill were good examples of this. Their secret? Power napping. The ability to be able to catch up with an hour or two's shut-eye during the afternoon. In our busy lives, this can prove difficult to achieve. One of the old herbal remedies is to use lavender to soothe and relax. Try a bit of lavender oil on your pillow or keeping a bunch of lavender by your bed. Then we moved on to the home and how comfortable you feel in your surroundings. Having a good spring clean is good for the soul. Bring some colour into your surroundings. Become aware of what colours lift your mood and use them. Get rid of anything that reminds you of the past with unhappy connections. Replace these things with more positive pieces. Things that remind you of your good intentions for the future. Get ready for a good spring clean, that clears your mind as well as your home. Written by Melanie Watson
