This Weeks Show!
This week in the Studio, I was lucky enough to have three guests on The Saturday Pitstop!

First up was Graham and Josie Poultney of the multi-award winning Kytes Theatre Group who came in to talk about the up and coming production, THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is a play by Jim Cartwright and is the story of a girl whose only escape from her alcoholic mother is by listening to the songs and impersonating the voices of all time great divas.

The role of Little Voice will be played by Victoria Abery who apparently left everyone speechless at her audition. She can impersonate Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, and Edith Piaf to name a few! Judy Garland is especially challenging for most singers. She sounds easy to do but the tone and pitch of her voice is incredibly difficult - trust me… I tried! Now, not only does Ms Abery sing her heart out she can act her socks off too! To get a glimpse of what you can expect in the show go to the www.kytes.net and you can see a trailer with five songs from the show. Excellent idea!

Josie Poultney is playing the part of Little Voices mother, which is a role made famous by Alison Steadman and in the film version by Brenda Bleathan. Josie said she is going to play the role her way and judging by the many awards this group has one, their way is the right way!

Graham Poultney will be directing this amazing musical/play.

I was also delighted to be joined by the award-winning writer, Sylvia Kent.

Sylvia is Vice-President of Brentwood Writers’ Circle and is proud of the club which has been so successful. The circle consists of men and women of all ages and who write all sorts of things, books, articles, memoirs and have seen their work published all over the place.

Sylvia came in to talk about her new book
The Woman Writer: The History of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists.
Available from Amazon
www.amazon.co.uk or from Brentwood library.

Sylvia said “So many of our pioneering members made their mark in journalism, literature and poetry. The book celebrates not only our great Society, but also the centenary, in 2010, of Joyce Grenfell - one of our famous Presidents - although we'd been established for 50 years when she joined us. There is a chapter dedicated to Joyce and she meanders throughout some of the other chapters”.

Over the years Sylvia has met/interview some high profile people. (Adam Faith, 60s and 70s rock groups actors (soaps The Bill, Coronation Street, etc) politicians (Ann Widdecombe, Betty Boothroyd, Jeffrey Archer) but mainly writers of all types including Colin Dexter, Simon Brett and P D James. As a child she was lucky enough to meet Enid Blyton!

If all that was not enough to keep Sylvia very busy she has been a regular writer (17 years and counting) on 60 titles including many Newsquest publications such as the Brentwood Weekly News.

If you are keen on writing, not sure how to progress then contact Brentwood Writers Circle.

You can read more about Sylvia and find out more about the Brentwood Writers Circle at www.sylviakent.blogspot.com
