Birds and the bees

Birds live in aviaries and bees live in apiaries. So said Nobby Clark, of Brentwood Beekeepers Association, on Phoenix FM's Saturday morning show with Oliver Rowe today. Nobby endeared himself to the Phoenix FM team by arriving with honey from his 10 garden hives for us all to try. A font of knowledge on all you need to know about bees and honey - whether runny or set - the show heard: - Beekeeping is popular among the clergy. They have the flexible working hours required to tend hives during the day when bees aren't resting. - Don't bother paying a three-figure swarm for your first swarm. Homeless colonies of up to 60,000 bees attaching themselves to trees and hedges are available for free. - Brentwood's Holly Tree Primary School has wannabe year six beekeepers among its pupils who look after their own bees under Nobby's guidance and sell the honey collected at their school fete. - Nobby's own Essex honey blend from his Warley garden is delicious - thanks to Nobby, who can be contacted on 01277 220561 by anyone interested in knowing more about the birds and the bees.
