Matt Monro Jnr

Matt Monro Jnr joined me on the phone on Tuesday 18th August 2009.

Matt Monro Jnr has discovered his own way in the music industry following his fathers chosen career path as a singer.  His father Matt Monro (1 December 1930 - 7 February 1985) was an English singer who became one of the most popular entertainers on the international music scene during the 1960s.  Throughout his 30 year career, he filled caberets, nightclubs, music halls, and stadiums in Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. He sold more than 100 million records during his lifetime.

When Matt Jnr was only 13 years old he was invited by his father to join him on stage and perform a duet with him. Matt did and from that moment on knew that what he wanted was to be a singer and to one day repeat that unforgettable night in 1977.

Unfortunately the two Monro’s never got a chance to repeat the performance as in February 1985, Matt Monro died at the age of 54. Matt’s dream of sharing the stage with his father again had been shattered, however, he had discovered his love for music and in 1995 was signed to EMI label and thanks to the advent of modern technology was able to fulfil his dream from that night back in 1977 when he dreamt of singing with his dad again. The album “Matt Sings Monro” is a collection of many of the best Matt Monro songs, done as duets with Matt Jnr following the example of Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole’s version of “Unforgettable”.
