Body Talk - 29th May

My guest this evening was Carla Downton who is an osteopath. There's a lot more to osteopathy than just treating a bad back.

If you go for a consultation with Carla, she won't just be looking at your spine. She treats the whole person. She looks for major contributory factors in your life that could have lead up to your current problem. Years of bad posture can lead to all sorts of physical problems. Sitting for hours at a computer, playing an instrument such as the violin, playing golf or any sport regularly can all affect the way our bodies work and move. Did you know that we spend approximately fourteen years of our life sitting down? If our seated posture is bad think what an impact that can have on your body.

Osteopaths help to reduce tissue inflammation by a number of methods ranging from massage of muscles and connective tissue, to manipulation and stretching of joints. As well as back pain, muscle and ligament injuries can be treated, knee pain, shoulder, elbow and wrist injuries, foot and ankle complaints and hip pain. Carla also told us how she'd managed to cure a patient of glue ear, by manipulation of the neck joint and surrounding area.

Carla has a wealth of information on how to improve the health of your body. It's worth a visit even if you are just feeling a bit run down, Carla will investigate whether your lifetime habits could be the cause. She doesn't just give you a quick fix, then off you go, she gives you good sound advice as to how you can take care of your own body, by regular exercise and being aware of your posture. If you have any questions or would like to know more,  email me at PhoenixFM.
