Drive / June 22nd-26th, 2009 It was a case of new balls please, Drive, as Wimbledon got underway, and Brentwood was - largely - bathed is brilliant sunshine all week! In the Phoenix FM studio, the tunes were hot too, with new tracks on the A-List including the fantastic Duckworth Lewis Method song 'The Age of Revolution' (out to buy in the shops from Monday) as well as tunes by Hafdis Huld, and the b.e.a-utiful Love Can Move Mountains, a real return to form by The Proclaimers! In the studio, there was a return of the legendary face-off that is 90's vs 00's with work-experience Will.I.Am determined to avenge the defeat of previous contestant, Jamie Bunker. Here's how it turned out, results-wise:- Round Will.I.Am - 90's VS 00's - Paul #1 - Comedy Programme Scrubs 40% - 60% I'm Alan Partridge #2 - Film The Dark Knight 74% - 26% The Truman Show #3 - Rock Song Radiohead - Bodysnatchers 22% - 78% Travis - Writing to Reach You #4 - Sporting Icon Roger Federer 71% - 29% 'Pistol' Pete Sampras #5 - Comedy Catchphrase "Am I Bovvered? 34% - 66% "This week, I have been mostly.." So, a close call, but The Fast Show pulled it through for me, a 3-2 victory for the undefeated heavyweight 90's vs 00's champion of the world (Phoenix world) ! Also this week, I interviewed Claire Hudson from http://www.in4merz.com, a fantastic new concept by which young people can get involved in the marketing and promotion side of music, and see if they would like to pursue a career in the music industry. Claire explained how by going to the website you can get involved (yes, you, right there, reading this!) and spoke of some of the fantastic artists that are signed to In4Merz, including the Sugababes (new album out in August - EXCLUSIVE!), hotly-tipped Marc Carroll, and Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige, whose new single we played exclusively on Phoenix 98 FM. As well as keeping all the listeners up to date with Andy Murray's stirling progress through the first week at Wimbledon, we heard the tribute song to Andy Murray ("Go on Andeee, Andeeee Murreeeee!") and played a brilliant featured track, by Will Hoge, from his album Blackbird on a Lonely Wire, called Secondhand Heart. We also played several songs on Friday in tribute to the death of Michael Jackson, including Don't Stop til You Get Enough and Black or White - we put him back at No. 1 in the Album Chart!! Next week; can Work Expereince Will.I.Am gain revenge in 90's vs 00's, will Andy Murray get to the Wimbledon Final, and what will the featured track be? Only one way to find out, keep it locked, http://www.phoenixfm.com Written by Paul Seaton
