Last week we had Habibur Rahman in the studio representing the Islam faith, he is the head imam in London and Brentwood (“Imam” is the leader or priest of the mosque).  He was joined by Farad Edu who is local to Brentwood and from the Alfurqaan foundation here in Brentwood

Habib has just got back from Jordan and was the head Imam in London for many years and only in Brentwood for 6-7 years. His job is to lead the prayers especially on Friday to ensure that the sermon is done in 4 different languages. Habib also teaches the Arabic language to A-level standard.

Forad is a student at the Islamic School in Brentwood, it’s a community gathering where they hold classes to learn about the Islamic faith and traditions of the prophet. Secretary of the Alfurqaan foundation, formed a year and half ago in Brentwood, it provides services for Muslims in Brentwood and convey to others about Islam.

We spoke about the Abrahamic origins of Islam, who Mohammed was and what Muslims believe in (including Jesus Christ), we also spoke a bit of Arabic, well kindof, listen to the interview for some bad pronunciation so language was a bit of a theme, Habib’s first language is Bengali and Forad being from Mauritius also speaks French.

Habib has the whole of the Koran memorised and even quoted some for us through song, definitely worth a listen
