Curveballs at the Bitter End - 25 April 2009 Nick Field hosted the first ever Curveballs spectacular at the Bitter End. Phoenix FM's Curveballs show on Wednesday nights has always been a supporter of local live music, and on Saturday 25 April 2009 we were proud to present the first ever Curveballs gig at the Bitter End in Romford. First up were The New Giants, whom you may also have heard this week as part of Phoenix FM's Creative Sessions. The band's rootsy sound lies mostly in classic Americana, but also in many ways the perfect soundtrack for the sun going down wherever you are. Next up was the jaunty sounds of the The OneSevenFours, recent stars of Phoenix FM's 2nd anniversary celebrations. Among their influences is "Those Things You Get Up To But Really Shouldn't But Enjoy Too Much Not To". Good call, we reckon! The night was headlined by more Creative Session guests, Curveballs favourites The Tibetan Tea Company.. Now here's a band who clearly have no fear of veering off on the odd musical tangent and, indeed, throw in a curveball or two of their own - as proven by Paul’s mighty drum solo!
