Father Matthew Bemand - St Thomas Church of England

Click here to listen to the interview

Father Matthew Bemand was in the studio last week representing the St Thomas Church in Brentwood.

Father Matthew is the full time reverend at St Thomas’s church and luckily lives only a few metres away in his first post as a priest. He grew up in the church and went to Oxford university to study and became a maths teacher.  He spend 3 years again in Oxford studying theology and has now found himself back in Brentwood.  Having spent time in local parishes and hospitals and visiting old people homes, he has been close to the community and helped out in various posts.

St Thomas is situated on St Thomas Road in Brentwood (10am on Sundays and around 300 members come each week), all their services are open to the public, there are also concerts sessions to help people learn more about the faith so feel free to pop in when you’re in the area.

We spoke about Christianity and the links of the Church of England to the Catholic church (click on the link above to hear the audio of the interview) and a few common misconceptions you might have been taught at school. In the interview we also discussed how the church is organised and the role the Queen has in the Church of England.
