The Saturday Kickabout Roundup - 7 March 2009
Although it may have seemed like a quieter Saturday for sport, we still had plenty of sporting news for the two hours of this weekend's Saturday Kickabout.
The one Premier League match kicked of at 3pm and had Spurs a goal down to Sunderland for 86 minutes, until Robbie Keane resued a point with just two minutes left of play at the Stadium of Light.
In the FA Cup we had news of Chelsea's early defeat at Coventry. Manchester United were two goals up at Craven Cottage by half time, on their way to beating Fulham 4-0 and booking a semi-final place.
Local league football action had Southend beating ten-man Walsall 2-0. Colchester impressed away from home as they beat Oldham 1-0. Leyton Orient also finished the day with three points, winning 2-1 against Brighton and edging away from the relegation zone. Dagenham & Redbridge lost 2-0 at home to Morecambe.
In local non-league football, Billericay impressed in front of over 450 fans as they beat Hastings United 1-0 in the Ryman League Premier. Brentwood Town drew 1-1 at Chatham.
We were getting regular score updates from the 2nd day of the 5th test as England appeared to be punishing the West Indies for their defensive approace in Trinidad.
Lloyd Bonson brought us up to date with the Rugby Union action, with the six nations next weekend, along with the latest news in the Guinness Premiership. Lloyd also discussed Ros Brawn's rescue of the former Honda F1 team.
Join us next weekend, when we'll be holding March's Community Football Surgery with Mike Burchett. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions relating to grass-roots football, from coaching to kicking the ball.
The Saturday Kickabout, every Saturday afternoon from 4-6 in association with Acorn Window Services.
