WALK WITH WATER

Together with friends and family, Billericay's Sarah Barber is 'walking with water' on February 1, covering the same distance as some walk every day to find a fresh water supply.

Sarah was on this weekend's Saturday Pitstop with Essex Ford Billericay ahead of the Billericay to Hutton trek in aid of CAFOD's South American aid projects.  Sarah, of Feering Road, is off to Honduras and Nicaragua on February 14 to see how her sponsorship will help the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development's work.

Mining has contaminated local water supplies in these countries, leading to people walking long distances for their safe daily rations.  To emphasise this, Sarah and supporters will be carrying water to Hutton.  You can sponsor and read more about their effort at www.justgiving/sarahbarber2.

Second guest on the Saturday Pitstop was fellow Phoenix FM presenter Lloyd Bonson, organiser of An Evening of Jazz at Brentwood Theatre on the evening of February 21.  On the bill are five top Essex and Greater London acts – proving that you don't have to travel into London to enjoy great jazz music.

On the bill are Avanti (www.myspace.com/avantijazz), Essex's swing, soul and jazz band Infusion (www.infusion-uk.co.uk), modern jazz quintet Interplay (www.interplay-jazz.co.uk), semi-professional 14-year-old Chris Neill (www.chrisneill.co.uk) and another quintet featuring singer Nova Hughes (www.myspace.com/jazzjourney).

Tickets, priced £8, are available from Brentwood Theatre on 01277 200305 and Phoenix FM on 01277 849929.  More at www.phoenixfm.com/an-evening-of-jazz-2009.php.
