Not quite the...

Sunday 18 January

Following James' extended Sunday Breakfast 'til 11am, I was looking after the rest
of 'Sunday Best' for Andrew.

We talked about the weather (watch out for Tuesday), the new logo on tomato ketchup
bottles, and I mentioned a few gardening tips for January, from a non-expert's
point of view - all seemed good sense to me.

So, for the gardeners amongst you, January is a good time to...

TRANSPLANT TREES and SHRUBS - the deciduous trees and shrubs, that is those that
lose their leaves in winter. Choose a day when the ground isn't frozen; remember that if
there is a freeze after moving the plant, you may need to re-firm it into the ground
if it has been lifted by the frost.

RE-SHAPE THE LAWN - as long as it isn't frosty, lawn edges can be reshaped in readiness for
the spring. This gives the garden an instant lift and neat appearance.

PLANTING - it's a good time to plant Roses and Blackcurrants.

And in the gardening news...

Next Saturday (24th January), is the Big Garden Birdwatch - spend an hour over the
weekend counting birds ub your garden or local park and help the RSPB collect information
on the bird population in this country. For events and to download a counting sheet,
visit www.rspb.org.uk

Next Sunday (25th January), is National Potato Day, incuding the Sixth London Charity
Potato Fair, 10am - 4pm at the Harris Girls Academy, Homestall Road, London SE22. www.potatofair.org

Don't go until AFTER Andrew's show - back at 10am next Sunday!

Added to that, we had some great music from Keane, Stevie Wonder, Take That, A-ha,
The Backstreet Boys, Desree and more.

Have a great week.

Ed
