Eliza Newman at the Slaughtered LambClick here to listen to the interview ![]() The place itself was a new venue on me - pretty dark with a definite 70s ambience with lots of extremely comfortable sofas everywhere. It wasn't so much a gig venue, more like Peter Wyngarde's living room during a power cut. The set itself was a short set comprising mainly from Eliza's debut solo album Empire Fall, which came out in October 2007, as well as a new song. I was most impressed with Hjartagull, not least because the keyboard player (whose name escapes me) managed to play the piano with her left hand and a glockenspiel with her right hand simultaneously .. that can't be easy! ![]() ![]() Ignoring the obvious and lazy comparisons with other atmospheric Icelandic artists, I felt the piano and voice combination leant much more to the non-kooky Kick Inside-era Kate Bush - simple songs, haunting melodies and beautiful vocals. The two support bands were Bedford's Johnny Parry Trio and Denmark's Choir Of Young Believers who also played a couple of stripped down sets. ![]() And don't forget kids ..
