Saturday 4 October 2008

The Saturday Breakfast Show is a great way to start your weekend if you're looking to do something in the Brentwood and Billericay area - and beyond.

Listen out for those events and happenings in and around our district and quite often hear what they're about directly from the people who are involved.

Today’s events included a Fairtrade Coffee morning being held at the Quaker Meeting House in Shenfield. I spoke with self proclaimed Fairtrade ‘expert’ Carol Kwei who campaigning to make Brentwood a Fairtrade borough – apparently Billericay already is. Find out more by visiting www.fairtrade.org.uk

I also spoke with Mik Dunn the secretary of the Billericay Mayflower Twinning Association (BMTA) who were holding a quiz night. Mik told me that Billericay is twinned with Billerica in Massachusetts, USA which can trace it origins back to the original Mayflower settlers, some of whom came from Billericay hence the name Billerica. Apparently just ‘down the road’ from Billerica is Chelmsford!

James Hendry, Basildon Council’s Recycling Officer was up early to tell me about the Crunch and the Green Crunch – information and tips about recycling and waste that come out into the community. Today they were in Billericay’s Little Burstead car park.

Finally, I was tempted by a Wine Tasting event being held by Sainsbury’s on behalf Leukemia Research UK at Shenfield Parish Hall. Mike Tidder of the local branch told me, not just about the wine tasting but all the other fun fund-raising events they do throughout the year.

The Mystery Voice this week was that of singer Will Young who revealed on BBC’s Five Live that he was a big fan of tv’s Question Time and he then was invited to appear on the show.

No correct answers this week but suggestions that the voice was that of Paul McCartney and David Beckham.

Got an event coming up? Then let us know. Call 01277 849929 or by email via our website http://www.phoenixfm.com/contact.php -  with the details. Or better still, come along and tell everyone in Brentwood and Billericay about your event yourself - call or email to make it happen.
