Sport Roundup - 4 October 2008.
A day before the Leopards basketball team aim to make it six wins in a row, as they play Bristol Academy Flyers at the Brentwood Centre, we spoke to the Jon Burnell, the team coach. The match tips-off at 4pm.
Ronnie O'Sullivan assured his place in the final of the Shanghai Masters, beating Stephen MacGuire 6-5 and producing a 145 break in the deciding frame.
The premier league action was limited to just three matches with a 3pm kickoff, with all the goals in the second half and ther majority being scored in the closing minutes of the matches. The results being:-
Sunderland 1-1 Arsenal
West Brom 1-0 Fulham
Wigan 0-1 Midlesbrough
As we approached the end of the show, it was still goalless in the match at Ewood park, which eventually finished with Man United beating Blackburn 2-0.
Billericay Town were beaten 1-0 by Dartford in the match at New Lodge. Brentwood continued their great run, making it through to the next round of the FA trophy after beating Potters Bar by two goals to nil. The next round sees a home match against AFC Sudbury, on 18 October. We also gave our congratulations to Brentwood's manager, Carl Griffiths, after he won the Ryman Division One North Manager of the Month award.
As always, Dan Westram gave all the scores as they came in along with his thoughts on a busy week for the football press in Newcastle.
Join us every Saturday between 4 and 6 for the Saturday Kickabout, in association with Acorn Window Services.
