The Saturday Kickabout - Twenty20 Cup final Day

On arguably the most exciting day in the history of one-day cricket, we started the show with the news that Essex had lost in the semi-final, by 14 runs, to Kent. Featuring updates from the 2nd semi-final, Middlesex beat Durham with Tyrone Henderson scoring 59 off 21 balls, including seven sixes. The two matches set-up the highest scoring Twenty20 final ever.

It was day two of the London Grand Prix athletics event, as we counted down the last two weeks prior to the Beijing Olympics.  Swimming had hit the headlines for the wrong reasons as U.S 50m breaststroke World Record holder, Jessica Hardy, had tested positive for a banned substance.

Rugby League was featured as St Helens beat Leeds in the Challenge Cup semi-final.  This setting the Yorkshire side up to win a potential  fifth cup in the space of seven years.

As usual Dan Westram brought us plenty or ripening rumours as we head towards the start of the football season, along with news of the Football Association respect campaign - forcing a 'Fair Play' handshake prior to every match this coming season, aiming to improve behaviour both on and off the pitch at all levels for the 2008/09 season.

We covered news of the local cricket news along with the week's football friendlies, featuring  both Brentwood and Billericay along with Premier League sides on pre-season tours.
