Dusty V Duffy!!!
Sunday May 11th 2008
I started Sunday Breakfast this week with the Feeling then ran into my three hour feature which instead of playing one record every half hour this week involved a sing off. The contestants were Dusty Springfield and Duffy!!!!! Who have on more than one occasion been compared. The tunes I played were
Dusty Springfield You Don’t Have to Say I Love You
Duffy Warwick Avenue
Dusty Springfield I Only Want To Be With You
Duffy Mercy
Dusty Springfield In Private
Duffy Stepping Stone
And the winner was ………… for me a draw in different ways!!!!!!!! I like them both.
7.30 Saw Essential Classics which this week featured Georges Bizet the composer of Carmen. Among the essential facts were………
Carmen written in 1875 is Bizet’s best known work and is based on a novella of the same title written in 1846 by Prosper Merimee. Carmen was not initially well received but praise for it eventually came from well known contemporaries including Debussy. Carmen has since become one of the most popular works in the entire operatic repertoire. However Bizet did not live to see its success as he died from a heart attack at the age of 36.
I played the Prelude from Carmen.
8.00 to 9.00 saw me review the local ( weekly papers )
Then in a completely…… Indiana Jones Moment ………the 8.30 feature what’s that year became ‘A Night In the Museum’ and ‘ Grumpy Old Men’ rolled into one as I featured the music of 1962!!!!!!
The tunes were
Susan Maugham Bobbys Girl
The Tornadoes Telstar
The Beatles Love Me Do
