| SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ESSEX FORD BILLERICAY – 3.5.8
Save Brentwood Action Group's Gerry Bender dropped by to catch up on the William Hunter Way development, traffic calming coming to the town and Sainsbury's new two-storey car park – dubbed a "car-buncle" by Gerry.
In the week William Hunter Way developers Stockland Halladale had told Phoenix FM that revised plans for the site were due within weeks. Last autumn's plans were withdrawn, with new ones due by March and then April.
SBAG are hoping for a May meeting with the company to review latest designs and discuss implications for the surrounding neighbourhood's character and heritage. Stockland say they have redesigned the development's exterior to address concerns and are now working on detailed drawings before resubmitting the application in the next few weeks.
Among areas earmarked for traffic calming is the narrowest section of Weald Road near Bardeswell Close. Another project underway is Sainsbury's new car park, described by Gerry as a "hideous car-buncle – something which could grace Disneyland as a ride". The parking and store expansion is due to be completed in June.
