Sunday 13th April - Munro Bagging
In The News This Week
Gardening related articles in the press this week……………..
In Wednesdays Guardian a great photograph of a gardener cutting a two mile yew hedge maze in Longleat. Six gardeners take over a month to clip the 16,000 trees that make up the maze!
Ringo Starr decapitated in revenge attack! An article and photograph of the topiary of the Beatles outside Liverpool Airport, except Ringo who has been decapitated!

Plant of the Week
Erythronium tuolumnense
Common name: Dog’s Tooth Violet
The common name is quite deceiving as this plant is in the Lily family. Intense yellow –golden flowers. Plant in light shade in light humus rich soil. Buy the bulbs between Sept and Nov and do not let them dry out. A specialist bulb nursery is Broadleigh Gardens. www.broadleighbulbs.co.uk
This plant comes from the Sierra Nevada foothills of Tuolumne County Calfornia.

My Guest This Week
My guest this week was Neill Bridgman talking about Munro Bagging. Collecting hills over 3,000 feet. There are almost 300 hills in Scotland over 3000 ft and Neil has climbed about 25 of them and hopes to complete them all one day. I think we worked out that he would be 82 if he climbed 10 a year! Here are a couple of websites that may be useful.
Happy Gardening
