Body Talk -22nd January

My guest this evening was Jane Sutherland from the charity Yoga Educational Support Society, or YESS for short.

Jane's interest in yoga started when she was a teenager, and this hobby has now developed into not just a career but a vocation. She found that more and more people were wanting to find ways of helping themselves and their children through the practise of this gentle form of exercise. Through different types of movement and relaxation, Jane found it possible to help those with some of the more challenging conditions, such as autism, aspergers, downs and dyspraxia. Even those in wheelchairs were included.

Although Jane's specialist area is children, she does also teach adults, with remarkable results. The overeall effect is one of calming and coping much better with life in general.

She teaches groups of between 6 and 17 students, and is currently teaching at schools in the Basildon area. The charity is hoping to expand in the not too distant future, taking on more teachers and going into more schools, including infant schools.

The continuing success of the charity is an indication of how useful this kind of therapy can be. Although very challenging, it is a constant inspiration for Jane and her colleagues.

Contact me for more information on this and other forms of yoga.
