British Sea Power at Canvey IslandClick here to listen to the interview It's not often that a band brings out a fantastic "return to form" type album, announce a "secret" gig a handful of miles from your home, and then you realise you can't make it because you decided to relaunch your stupid radio show on the same night ... ![]() Far from being a lost cause, I went down to the Art Deco splendour of the Monico Hotel in Canvey Island (don't let anyone tell you it's a dump) to chat to Yan and Hamilton from the band about nothing in particular. Was the line of questioning deliberate so I could catch them off guard to get them to spill the beans on news about their fourth album ...? Being unable to review the gig itself, which by all accounts was excellent, I am happy to report that I watched a good half an hour of the soundcheck which was rather like a gig in a small room just for me, so I don't have any real complaints about missing the rest of the evening. Since you just missed the UK tour, remember to catch them at one of the many festivals they'll be at this summer. ![]() Written by Paul Golder
