Show 2, 21st January with Mary Redman

Mark blog – week two
Monday 21 January 2008

So last week cannot have been too bad as the door was not slammed in my face when I walked in! Seriously, I had a lot of good comments from colleagues at Phoenix 98FM and from friends who did tune in and I am indeed looking forward to my regular Monday slot over the next couple of months.

But let’s face it, this week was not so much A Wander Through The Arts as much as a full-speed gallop through a huge list of songs (and we did not play them all!) brought in by Mary Redman, renowned and revered arts critic with The Brentwood Gazette and The Stage (the actors’ ‘bible’)

The playlist – all chosen by co-host Mary (except for the first one she insists I point out!) was as follows:-

1. Overture to Jesus Christ Superstar (By Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice)
2. Strike Up The Band (by George and Ira Gershwin)
3. The Half of It, Dearie, Blues (Lady Be Good by George and Ira Gershwin)
4. Shall We Dance? (Fascinating Rhythm by George and Ira Gershwin)
5. Puttin’ On The Ritz (Irving Berlin)
6. Ambrosian Chorus - Of Thee I Sing
7. Bells Are Ringing Just In Time – Jule Styne
8. One Hundred Easy Ways To Lose Your Man (Wonderful Town by Leonard Bernstein)
9. Something’s Coming (West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein)
10. Gee, Officer Krupke (West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein)
11. Linger Awhile – Vic Damone
12. Beautiful Girls (Follies by Stephen Sondheim)
13. Glitter and Be Gay (Candide by Leonard Bernstein)
14. We Both Reached For The Gun (Chicago by Kander and Ebb)
15. It Ain’t Easy Being Me (Jerry Springer The Opera)
16. This Is My Jerry Springer Moment (Jerry Springer The Opera)

I don’t know about you, but I was impressed by Mary’s extensive knowledge of the not-so-modern musical theatre and really enjoyed the evening once more. Please join me next week when my co-host will be actress Gwyneth T Loft.
