SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ESSEX FORD BILLERICAY - 19.1.8
Billericay Chamber of Commerce
Saturday Pitstop guest Trevor Draper is chair of Billericay Chamber of Commerce, formed almost two years ago. The group has around 40 members, representing shops on the High Street and elsewhere round the town, as well as other businesses including solicitors and accountants.
Billericay High Street is 50 per cent made up of independent traders due to the interior layout of the street's historic buildings not suiting larger chain shops and other national multiples. Trading in Billericay received a boost ten years ago when one big high street, Waitrose, arrived in town. A parallel is taking shape in the other town in Phoenix FM's coverage area, with Waitrose rumoured to be part of Brentwood's William Hunter Way development (revised planning application due by end of March 2008).
Billericay Chamber of Commerce runs the www.visitbillericay.co.uk website which invites commercial and private residents alike to get in touch with their views on town issues. For 2008 the Chamber's investigating a loyalty card providing discounts at member organisations. Go to the forum on visitbillericay.co.uk to comment.
Trevor chose the music while on air on today's Saturday Pitstop with Essex Ford Billericay. First choice was Elton John's Tiny Dancer, followed by There Must Be An Angel, by the Eurythmics, and finally Desperado by The Eagles for wife Lesley.
