PHOENIX FM'S SATURDAY PITSTOP WITH ESSEX FORD BILLERICAY - 22.12.7
The Brentwood Lions behind helping Santa to visit homes round the town during December was featured on today's show.
Brentwood Lions Club's Colin Talbot came on the Saturday Pitstop to update Phoenix FM listeners on its Santa activities. Every year the Lions take Father Christmas to the children unable to make the trip to his grotto.
Since December 3, Santa and his Lions helpers have been out and about in Pilgrims Hatch, Blackmore and other Brentwood villages north of the A12. His sleigh plays Christmas music to entice children out of their homes.
The outings raised £1,800, some of which was spent on an outing for 55 needy children and parents to the pantomime in Southend. Brentwood Lions was donated a further £800 when their sleigh was parked up on Brentwood High Street one Saturday before Christmas promoting their festive campaign.
Brentwood Lions comprises around 20 members whose fundraising is donated 100 per cent to worthy causes. They are part of an international association of Lions Clubs and can be contacted by want-to-be volunteers and other enquirers at www.brentwoodlions.org.uk
Brentwood Lion Colin Talbot played his music choices on the Saturday Pitstop, including Karen Carpenter's Winter Wonderland (played on the Lions' sleigh), Roy Wood & Wizard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday and White Christmas by Bing Crosby (for wife Lynne). Phoenix FM thanks Brentwood Lions for their friendship pennant presented to Saturday Pitstop presenter Oliver Rowe at the end of the interview.
