Ella, 13, is the youngest ever presenter of a regular show

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We’ve always had a big variety of ages among our presenters on Phoenix FM and that variety has just got wider with the edition of Ella Webb to the team!

Ella is a year 9 pupil in Brentwood who is taking her Duke of Edinburgh award this year. As part of her requirement she approached us to ask if we would be interested in a radio show which she could host as part of the work needed to get the award.

We’re always very interested to host new ideas but our schedule was full at the time – but we stayed in touch and Ella mapped out her show, which features news stories and features from around the world aimed at teenagers.

Luckily an opportunity came up and we were delighted to give Ella a regular weekly show, which we’ve cleverly titled Worldwide Webb – although she’s keen on local issues too, as she volunteers at Brentwood charity SNAP – Special Needs and Parents every week, and is looking to continue her DoE award long after the end of the school year.

At 13 years old Ella is our youngest ever regular presenter – and it’s no gimmick either, as she’s gone through the same training that everyone else goes through, and can operate the broadcast desk and all the studio equipment on her own.

You can hear her Ella’s show every Wednesday from 6pm.

*** We’ve got plenty of guetst lined up over the next seven days on air.

Mental health advocate Billy Harding will be chatting with James Roast on The Happiness Algorithm, and local authors Sylvia Kent and Ted Bailey will be joining Michelle in the studio on Eat My Brunch.

There will also be live music in the studio from Steo Wall, Rachel Arnold and Ella Botton.
