Music in the Cathedral
Brentwood Cathedral
Following Brentwood Choral Society's very succesful Haydn Workshop at the end of January there is to be a performance by society members and the Cathdedral Singers of Haydn's Harmonie Messe on Saturday 20th March 2010 at 7.30pm in Brentwood Cathedral. The concert is a joint venture with Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra who will also perform Beethoven's Eroica Symphony. The conductors are Alan Pegrum and Nicholas Sherwood, and a line up of excellent soloists, Julia Wilson-James, Eleanor Minney, Paul Tindall and David Taylor. All are welcome.
Tickets - all unreserved - are £10.00, concessions £9.00, children £2, and available from the Music Office, Brentwood Cathedral, Ingrave Road, Brentwood, CM15 8AT, tel. 01277 265288, or from the entrance to the Cathedral on the night. When applying for tickets please enclose a stamped addressed envelope and a cheque made payable to Brentwood Cathedral Music. And this concert is a Haydn taster. The Hutton Players present TARTUFFE by Moliere, translated by Ranjit Bolt
Moliere's classic satire was denounced on its first performance as a sacrilegious outrage and banned from further public view. Only after petition to Louis XIV was the ban lifted, and the play's trenchant mockery of human frailties has ensured its popularity ever since. This new translation by Ranjit Bolt enjoyed its premiere in a major new production at the Royal National Theatre, with Martin Clunes in the title role.

St George and the Dragon Mummers' Play
The Mayflower Morris Men of Billericay, Essex will be performing the traditional Mummers’ Play of St. George and the Dragon on Saturday 24th April 2009, in the High Street (on the corner with St. Edith’s La.), Billericay. Mummers’ Plays are the original street theatre of England - a highly dramatic mixture of comedy, tragedy and romance – and have been performed in the same way for centuries.
