A mindful mince pie

Part of feeling good is sometimes taking the time to take stock and savour what you’re doing – so on this week’s Feelgood Saturday I invited local mindfulness expert Andy Powell in to the show to do just that.

Andy has been practising mindfulness for 15 years and had some really useful tips for helping us enjoy being present and get a little mental calm. Particularly important in the run-up to Christmas when we can all get a bit frazzled by all the shopping, parties and dashing about like a headless chicken (or should that be turkey).

Andy Powell

To hear my full interview with Andy, on why mindfulness is important, who can do it and how to do it – click the link below:

He also guided us through a quick three-minute starter session – a great taster for what it means to be mindful. You can listen back to that below:

For more tips from Andy make sure you visit the Brentwood Mindfulness facebook page, or his own website: andypowellcoaching.co.uk

Elsewhere on the show we covered the Entertainment news, crowd-sourced some ideas for how I can spend my time off work over Christmas and also I predicted the winner of Strictly 2017! (I was right by the way!).

Keep the change… ya filthy animal!

Saturday 9th December equals just over two weeks until the big day! And to help us get into the true spirit of Christmas I invited Andrew Schrader – Billericay local film buff (and self-proclaimed geek) onto Feelgood Saturday to talk festive films.

He has some pretty controversial opinions and some pretty tasteful knitwear, so listen back to the interview to hear his top three pick of Christmas films and why he thinks those movies are so important to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

You may also have a view on who emerges victorious in the battle of the festive knitwear – although I’m more John Snow than let it snow! Festive film fun with Andrew Schrader

Elsewhere on the show, there was jive talking, a tribute to Billericay’s most tragic resident and we found out who was the most streamed artist of 2017!

Plus loads of feelgood music (and an increasing number of Christmas songs creeping in).

Peter the spider?

This week’s Feelgood Saturday was fairly therapeutic as it helped me come to terms with the terrifying arachnid just outside the studio door. He’s there every week – lurking – at once my most loyal listener and my harshest critic!

We crowd-sourced a name for him and Peter was the winner! Here he is in all his glory:Peter the spider

Elsewhere on the show we had the entertainment news, a royal Headliner and we checked out the Charleston ahead of Strictly. So if you’ve ever wondered what “swivel” is and how to do it -you need to listen back to the show at the link below:

On this week’s Feelgood Saturday I met the ridiculously talented guys from BOSSY – a Brentwood based youth theatre group, who crossed the barricade to talk about their latest production – Les Miserables. And they were anything but miserable – treating us to some tantalising sneak peeks of what the show has in store. The guys range in age from 14 to 18 and have talent to spare!BOSSY selfie(l-r: Billie, Jake, Tia, Sam, Jamie, me and Rosie). You can follow them on twitter to see what else they get up to (@BOSSYtheatre) and to buy tickets to the show just click here. It’s on at the Brentwood Theatre from Tuesday 21st to Saturday 26th November.

Listen back to that chat below and here’s an awesome picture of the guys in character too!

Posterior conducting

Today’s show was all about coming together through music…and wiggling your posterior!

I was joined in the studio by the lovely Brian Ford, driving force behind the Festival of Remembrance in Billericay – Saturday 11th November from 19:30. Find out more on their facebook page.

Me and Brian Ford

Brian was saying it takes a town to put on a show as impressive as the Festival and he calls in favours from lots of willing and able volunteers who all do their bit.

I also learnt that he is an ex-band conductor, and learnt the secret to his technique – apparently it’s all in the behind!

…which linked us nicely to our Strictly Focus for the week – the Salsa!

If you’d like to listen back to my chat with Brian that’s here:

I ain’t afraid of no ghosts…

On this week’s Feelgood Saturday we celebrated things that go bump in the night – with a Halloween special. We had a spookily good Halloween playlist of music from the sixties to today – including songs about bats, cats and me in a witches hat.

Me in a witches hat

Then in the second half I was joined by some of the crew from Early Doors Productions, to talk about their latest offering – on a similarly scary theme – Jekyll & Hyde.

All that plus a look ahead to tonight’s Strictly, including what to look out for in the rumba – and something scary that happened to Simon Cowell recently…

Early Doors

You can listen back to my interview with J, Amy, Bill and Darren from Early Doors here…

St Elmo’s Fire

On this week’s Feelgood Saturday it went off! Like a firework! Witty, sparkling conversation and some tunes even brighter than the moon. All that amidst the “oohs” and “aahs” of this week’s Headliner, as well as the Entertainment news round-up and a look ahead at what to expect from Strictly.

The definite highlight was firework fan and wearer of a rather fancy moustache – Marcus Bennett, of Billericay Round Table. He was in to talk about this year’s Billericay Fireworks, on Saturday 4th November. You can listen back to my interview with him (including a rather gruesome firework-related quiz) below and don’t forget to click here to buy your tickets for the big display this year.
