On this week’s House of Fun with Karin Ridgers we were talking about Wetnose Day with Wetnose Animal Aid  Co Founder Andrea Gamby-Boulger, Wildlife TV Presenter Anneka Svenska and TV personality Karen Chamberlain.

Musician and environmental campaigner, Sir Paul McCartney has released a new picture of him “Posing with his Nose” in aid of Wetnose Day – along with much loved actor and dog lover Tom Hardy.

Wetnose Day will be taking place across the UK on September 29th – October 1st 2017 to help promote the issue of animal welfare and to raise much needed funds to cover essential food and medical treatments for animals in desperate need in the UK.

Wetnose Day aims to encourage schools, workplaces, vets, groomers, dog clubs, in fact everyone to pose with their nose and raise over £100,000 for dedicated rescue centres nationwide and the animals they care for.

Wetnose Day was established in 2000 by founders Andrea and Gavin Gamby-Boulger.  Andrea said,

“I was delighted to hear Sir Paul McCartney wanted to support Wetnose Day and pose with his nose!

Over the last few years Wetnose has been delighted to have fabulous endorsements and support from leading celebrity and animal campaigners including Paul O’Grady, Amanda Holden, Brian May and many, many more.

Frontline Plus, the flea and tick treatment providers and main sponsors of Wetnose Day stated “Animal welfare is at the core of our business, so we are delighted to endorse, alongside Sir Paul McCartney, Wetnose Day. The UK has hundreds, if not thousands of hard working volunteer rescue centres, and it’s essential their work is supported to ensure animals are cared for in the manner they deserve, namely with respect, love and compassion.”

Nathan Flatman from Animed Direct, the UK’s leading online animal pharmacy, stated “We are delighted to be supporting Andrea and her team in promoting Wetnose Day, raising the issues of animal welfare awareness and pet ownership. As pet owners ourselves, who serve thousands of pet customers every day, this campaign is essential and we urge everyone to pose with their nose!”

What beats a great farce? A Fox On The Fairway

What beats a great farce? Starting in the 1880’s and including some of Shakespeare’s plays a great farce according to Ken Ludwig the writer of A Fox on the Fairway is , “A broad comedy where the emphasis is more on the story and the plotting than on the emotional journey of the characters.”

When a complex story ticks along without missing a beat then fits together perfectly at the end like a Chinese puzzle box.”

The Queens theatre has a special place in my heart, I visited the theatre as a child and I love going back as I have never been disappointed. A stunning theatre and a little piece of the Westend on our door step.

A Fox on the Fairway is the British premier of an American book and play and has been adapted for the British audience.

Set at the Quail Valley Golf Club at the annual golf tournament we meet the Henry Bingham the president, brilliantly played by Damien Matthews and Richard Dickie Bell his rival, again cast wonderfully with accomplished actor Simon Lloyd.

The middle class action starts with Bingham’s assistant falling in love with the waitress, their star player switching sides at the last minute of the tournament and a bet that if lost is going to cost Bingham a lot more than his wager!

Natalie Walter plays Pamela Peabody and tells us some more …

Natalie, what is your favourite part of the play?

My favourite part of the play is the chase. All farce needs a chase!’

People love farce because it’s light comedy, the audience knows what to expect but yet the jokes and story line is still quite often a surprise.’

We love The Queens Theatre here at Phoenix FM, you have performed in many theatres all over the UK Natalie, so what do you like about the Queens Theatre?

I like the Queen’s Theatre because of the community atmosphere. The theatre is always buzzing with different events.’

Yes, we know people who love the jazz events, I must come over again for some of the children workshops too.

Finally, what would you say to Phoenix FM listeners to encourage them to pop along and see A Fox on the Fairway?

I think people should come to see the show because it’s a silly night out for all, it’s just fun. Everyone needs a night of pure entertainment once in a while!’

Yes a lot of inside jokes for the golf fanatics however I still loved the play and my golfing experience consists of a miserable day traipsing around a gold course with my dad about 35 years ago!

As always a brilliant cast at the Queens Theatre, reasonable tickets from the same price as going to the cinema and is part of their famous Jump the Q offers.
