Lakeside Speedway – BRAVE BEN MISSES OUT

Arena Essex

The latest from the Lakeside Speedway Press Office…

LAKESIDE’S Ben Morley just missed out on glory in Cradley’s FAST Golden Hammer at Wolverhampton.

The Vortex Hammers skipper, who was third in this event two years ago, finished on 13 points to go into a three-man run-off for the crown with Dan Bewley and Max Clegg.

It was anyone’s race as they sped three abreast down the back straight at Monmore, but it was Belle Vue starlet Bewley who emerged in front with former Heathen Clegg second.

“It was a good run-off,” said Morley. “I made a bit of a mistake.

“But a good evening and I hope everyone enjoyed it.”

Fifteen-year-old Jason Edwards continued to rack up his experience and recorded a highly creditable 10 points with a brace of heat victories.

Edwards, who had a more than useful recce of Monmore on a recent guest booking for Cradley, promptly saw off Heathens Joe Lawlor and Conor Dwyer in the very first heat of the night.

Morley followed former Cradley man Clegg home in his first outing but then blasted in a brace of wins to maintain his challenge.

And when he finished second to Ashley Morris with the previously unbeaten Bewley third, the meeting was wide open again.

American Broc Nicol could have taken the crown with victory in his final race, only to bin his bike into the third turn safety fence.

That brought the dramatic rerun – and a podium place for Morley.

Scores: Dan Bewley 13, Max Clegg 13, Ben Morley 13, Ashley Morris 12, Broc Nicol 11, Jason Edwards 10, Luke Harris 9, Joe Lawlor 7, Chris Widman 7, Connor Coles 6, Lee Dicken 5, Bradley Andrews 5, Taylor Hampshire 3, Dan Greenwood 3, Conor Dwyer 3, Kean Dicken 0, James Chattin (res) did not ride, Stephen Whitehouse (res) did not ride. Run-off: Bewley, Clegg, Morley.
