National League Preview 21 October 2017

IMG_20170721_121505544[1]

The National League took a break on Saturday as teams faced the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.  Action returns on Saturday with the next round of fixtures, with some intriguing ties in prospect.

Leyton Orient vs Macclesfield Town @15:00

Leyton Orient will be desperate to snap their seven game winless streak in the League, but face a tough test against the league leaders, who after beating Stourbridge in the Cup 5-0, will hope to add to their 4 League wins in a row.  Orient face a Cup replay against Dagenham on Tuesday night before this fixture.

Dagenham and Redbridge vs Wrexham @15:00

Has to be considered the tie of the day. The Daggers face a replay with Leyton Orient on Tuesday after the first encounter ended goalless.  They stalled a bit last time out in the League, losing to Woking, but have 16 points from a possible 21 at Victoria Road. The visitors lost to Fylde in the Cup but are 10 undefeated in the League and sit 5th.

AFC Fylde vs Maidstone Utd @15:00

Fylde beat Wrexham 1-0 to reach Round 1 of the FA Cup on Saturday, but are down in 19th, with only one home win in the League this season.  Their Kent opponents struggled against Isthmian Premier Enfield Town, facing a replay, but are 9th and have won their last three away League games.

Aldershot Town vs Tranmere Rovers @15:00

After beating Torquay in the Cup, the Shots will aim to get their League form back on track as they have slipped outside the playoffs with no wins in four.  After struggling early on in their League campaign, pre season favourites Tranmere have claimed seven points from a possible 9 in the League and come into this game off the back of a 3-1 FA Cup victory against FC Halifax.

Bromley vs Woking @15:00

Bromley drew 0-0 with Dover in Saturday’s all Kent FA Cup tie, and come into this game on good form having won their last two National League matches.  Their opponents have to face Concord Rangers in a replay after a 1-1 draw on Saturday, but are flying high in 3rd, undefeated in seven in all competitions with five wins.

Chester vs Boreham Wood @15:00

Chester lost out to National League North Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, but with new man Marcus Bignot in charge they did pick up a win a couple of matches ago.  However, only one home League win will mean that Chester are up against it against a Boreham Wood team who overcame their former boss Ian Allinson in the Cup and are a solid mid-table outfit.

Dover Athletic vs Maidenhead @15:00

Dover are one of the surprise packages this season, sitting 2nd and undefeated in five in the League.  The visitors are a mid-table side, capable of anything on their day, and come into this match having beaten National League South Havant and Waterlooville 2-1 with a late goal to advance in the Cup.

Eastleigh vs Gateshead @15:00

The Spitfires lost to Southern Premier Hereford FC in one of the shocks of the 4th Qualifying Round, and at home too.  The home side are struggling down in 18th and face fellow strugglers Gateshead, who are finally hoping to pick up an away League win this season.

Ebbsfleet vs Barrow @15:00

Ebbsfleet face a replay with East Thurrock on Tuesday after a 0-0 draw, but are in good league form, their run of three wins only ended by table toppers Macclesfield. Barrow have the form book against them, having earned only two points from a possible 21 away and sitting down in 20th.  The visitors also lost to EvoStik Northern Premier Shaw Lane in Sunday’s Cup showdown.

FC Halifax vs Torquay @15:00

Halifax have hit a bad patch, adding a 3-1 defeat to Tranmere in the Cup to their run of no wins in three in the League.  However, you have to fancy them against a Torquay side who lost 1-0 to Aldershot, have one point from a possible 21 away and sit bottom of the table.

Guiseley vs Solihull Moors @15:00

Guiseley will hope their 6-0 win against Northern League Shildon (all six goals coming in the second half) will kick start a season which sees no wins in 10 in the League, although they have picked up 5 points in that run.  This is a real basement battle, as Solihull sit just below their hosts in 23rd, with no wins in seven in the League and a replay against EvoStik League North Ossett Town to come.

Hartlepool vs Sutton Utd @15:00

Hartlepool overcame the banana skin of South Shields in the Cup 2-1 on Saturday and have back-to-back wins in the League, but face a challenge against 4th placed Sutton.  The visitors are undefeated in four in the League, are into Round 1 of the Cup after sneaking past Paulton Rovers 3-2, and have 17 points from 21 away.
