Show 148: Emily Frith

Hello all. show 148! Not a bad innings. We had Emily Frith on the show this week, and it’s fair to say it was an education.

From a young man who grew up listening to his grandmother’s country music cassette tapes, I have lost touch through the years. Still like it mind you, but I’m not an expert. Emily Frith, however, is and I nearly had to change the name of the show from ’50 Shades of Chay’ to ‘Emily Firth’s Country Takeover’.

I met Emily as a facilitator, she was one of the young-songwriters at the SoSlam week in April. She has an EP coming up along with a launch party on the 11th September. Keep your eyes peeled – bound to be awesome. All before she sets off to go to university.

Below you can hear the full show, as well as two live recordings with my shoddy camera work. Here are the songs played live on the show, along with the live performances in bold…

1. Angels & Airwaves – Valkyrie Missle
2. Band Of Horses – Feud
3. Arcade Fire – Keep The Car Running
4. Taylor Swift – Treacherous
5. Dolly Parton – Better Get To Livin’
You And I
6. Art Brut – Nag Nag Nag Nag
7. Arctic Monkeys – You Probably Couldn’t See For The Lights But You Were Staring Right At Me
One Day
8. Thomas Rhett – Star Of The Show
9. Zac Brown Band – Homegrown
Figure You Out
10. Caitlin King – When I Wake Up
11. Bavard – Those Days
12. Nicola Collis – Burning The Candle At Both Ends (150th Show Sessions)
13. Owen Williams – Oil & Water (150th Show Sessions)
14. Jake Bugg – Country Song
I Think We Should
15. Asylums – Joy In A Small Wage
16. Bastille – Power

Emily joined me for 50 Grades Smarter, my weekly quiz show. The aim was to beat Davey Hal: denied! However, she scored a respectable 12 points on a pot luck quiz which give her mid-to-lower table finish. If she was into football (she isn’t, we established) she’d escape relegation. Here is the scoreboard…

The Dom Clark Trio – 18.75
John Paul Elliott – 18
Alex John Adlington – 18
The Facilitators – 16.5
Gavin Bell – 16.5
