Back for a second visit is author Nicholas Barrett to talk about his second book, Advent Term: (or- Snowmen don’t wear Thermals): Volume 2 (St Onans Chronicles)

Nicholas has had a varied working background from Administration, session drummer, stand up comedian and has during that time always written. He also shared a house with a ghost called Mr Goodman.

His fictional work,  is based on some of his real life experiences, funny, witty and heart breaking. Its a story we have all experienced, growing up and our school days.

THE BOOK

Nicky is now Thirteen, Older, slightly taller, and still baffled on a daily basis by the institution that is… SAINT ONANS ACADEMY The Head is on a mission – save money. The Staff are on a mission to get a grip on reality. The Groundskeeper wants to get a grip on the Heads throat Christmas is coming- but who is coming to town? Youd better watch out!! Where can you get a head for a Headless Horse? And while you’re at it- can anyone tell us where all the gold has gone? Will Nicky and his friends save the planet? And what sort of Christmas card should you send to the neighbours that you don’t like? The ‘Ghost Walks prove to be popular- not least with the Ghosts themselves. The Physics Department has opened a doorbut a door can open both ways. ADVENT TERM The Festive Season is upon us – with guests like the BBC and CID dropping in for a sherry and a mince pie. As the Groundling Choir sing Carols – find out if there is something sinister lurking under the tree.

REVIEWS

Nick Barrett’s first book was great – but this one is even better!. Following close on the heels of Ronald Searle, Tom Sharpe, and Terry Pratchett, Nick is now set to join the ranks of the British comedy writer elite. His glorious depiction of grammar school life, from riotous assembly’s to an explosive Christmas carol service are wickedly funny. He takes remarkable pleasure in schoolboy innuendoes and is capable of the wittiest and most biting turns of phrase. Once again, this book does for Boys Grammar Schools what St. Trinian’s did for the girls. I am desperately keen to read the next instalment and can’t wait for it to be turned into a movie, or TV series!!!

Available at Amazon, Waterstones and all good bookshops.
