NEWS THIS WEEK
1980 – Namco releases the highly influential arcade game Pac-Man which became a social phenomenon. It sold a large amount of merchandise and also inspired, among other things, an animated television series and a top-ten hit single.

1986 – The stop-motion clay animated children’s comedy television series Pingu premieres on BBC1. The main character, Pingu frequently goes on adventures with his little sister, Pinga, and often gets into mischief with his best friend, Robby the Seal.

1986 – The Monkees held a press conference at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City to officially announce that they would embark on a 100-plus city tour. The tour became one of the biggest grossing tours of the year.
