Football: Local Sides Round-up (Through the Divisions) – January 28th 2017

Scott W reports with a round-up of all of today’s results (Jan 28th ‘17) from the local sides we look out for on Phoenix Sport, from West Ham Utd all the way to Bowers & Pitsea & Brentwood Town.

The sides that were not in action today was due to their respective exits from the FA Cup.

West Ham Utd didn’t play today.      (Premier League)

Preston North End  1 – 1   Ipswich Town    (EFL Championship)

The Tractor Boys were denied a morale-boosting win by Simon Grayson’s Lilywhites at Deepdale. Tom Lawrence put the visitors ahead just after the quarter-hour mark. That looked to be enough until late on Jordan Hugill, ironically a transfer target for Ipswich – levelled for his current side. Preston sit in 10th place. Ipswich are 14th.

Fleetwood Town 1  – 1 Southend Utd  (League One)

Fleetwood grabbed a last-minute equaliser against Phil Brown’s Shrimpers in a battle of two in-form sides at Highbury Stadium. Anthony Wordsworth put the visitors ahead seven minutes before the break. Uwe Rosler’s side levelled through David Ball. The Cod Army reside in 4th spot, seven points off the top two, unbeaten in their last ten league matches. Southend stay 7th, two points shy of the top six.

Mansfield Town  2  –  0  Leyton Orient  (League Two)

Two second-half goals from Ben Whiteman & Danny Rose were enough for the Stags to claim the three points against out-of-form Orient at Field Mill. Mansfield rise to 10th place, now unbeaten in six league matches. The O’s fall back into the bottom two on goal difference, sitting 23rd.

Colchester Utd didn’t play today.    (League Two)

Tranmere Rovers 0  –  2  Dag & Red   (National League)

John Still’s Daggers picked up a big win at rivals Tranmere’s Prenton Park. Goals in each half from Corey Whitely and Oliver Hawkins were enough for all three points. The Super White Army drop to 4th place in the table. Dagenham leapfrog today’s opponents into 3rd place, just three points off leaders Lincoln City.

Braintree Town didn’t play today.   (National League)

Chelmsford City  2  –  0  Truro City  (National League South)

Rod Stringer’s men picked up an important win at fortress Melbourne Park. Second-half goals from Elliott Buchanan and Shaun Jeffers saw the Clarets keep up their impressive recent record at home, now unbeaten in ten league matches there. Chelmsford rise to 4th spot. The White Tigers fall to 17th place after their fifth loss in six league matches.

Concord Rangers  3  –  2  St Albans City  (National League South)

Adam Flanagan’s men picked up a vital win at the Aspect Arena. Steve King and Dion Sembie-Ferris put Concord two-up at the break. The Saints roared back after the break as Shaun Lucien and Ben Herd put the visitors level with minutes remaining. Sembie -Ferris popped up again though to grab all three points for Concord, for their first win in seven league matches. The Beach Boys are 18th, four points clear of the bottom three.

Hungerford Utd 3  – 0  East Thurrock Utd  (National League South)

The Crusaders comfortably defeated the Rocks at Bulpit Lane. Louie Soares put the hosts ahead ten minutes before the break. In the last 20 minutes, Stefan Brown and Rhys Tyler made the points safe. Bobby Wilkinson’s side rise to 5th place & are now unbeaten in ten league matches. John Coventry’s men drop to 10th place.

Billericay Town 1  –  0  Staines Town    (Ryman Premier Division)

Billy Bricknell scored the only goal eight minutes before half-time to claim a much-needed win for Craig Edwards’ men at New Lodge. Billericay rise to 14th spot, still ten points off the top five. Staines stay 13th.

Brentwood Town 2  – 1  Thurrock   (Ryman Division North)

Tony Ievoli’s side picked up a big win against high-flying Thurrock at the Brentwood Arena. Harrison Georgiou put the Blues ahead on the quarter-hour. Fleet levelled five minutes into the second half through David Cowley. The home side wouldn’t be denied though as hot-shot Lamar Reynolds grabbed the winner to take the hosts out of the bottom three. Brentwood now sit 21st, unbeaten in three league matches. Thurrock fall to 3rd place, now nine points off leaders Maldon & Tiptree after their first loss in ten league matches.

Great Wakering Rovers 1   –  2  Brightlingsea Regent   (Ryman Division North)

Regent kept up their excellent recent form with victory at Burroughs Park. A Dylan Skinner OG and a goal from hot-shot Aaron Condon put the visitors’ two-up at the break. Late on, Jake Gordon pulled one back for Wakering though they succumbed to their seventh straight home league defeat. Wakering stay bottom, now nine points from safety. The R’s rise to 2nd place, now six points behind leaders Maldon & Tiptree, having lost only one of their last ten league matches.

Maldon & Tiptree  2  – 3  Bowers & Pitsea   (Ryman Division North)

Bowers won a titanic battle against leaders Maldon at the Wallace Binder Stadium. The visitors took the lead through Lewis Clark on the half-hour. Hot-shot Liam Nash levelled for Kevin Horlock’s men just six minutes later. Maldon then went in-front through Tyler Brampton on the hour. Just moments later, Ben Sartain saw red for two bookable offences. Straight after that, Brad Warner levelled for Rob Small’s men. Then only two minutes after that, a penalty from Warner was enough to grab all three points and end Maldon’s brilliant run at home so far this season. Maldon stay top though their lead is cut to six points. Bowers first win in five league matches sees them stay 5th on goal difference.
