Unused medicines – do you throw in the bin? STOP!

Do you throw your unused medicine in the bin or down the loo? STOP! Medical Waste costs the Basildon and Thurrock areas every year, £2.5 million worth of medication is returned to pharmacies unused.

This could pay for 3,125 cataract operations, 395 hip replacements or 100 community nurses

I talked to Head of Medicines Optimisation, Denise Rabette from NHS Basildon and Brentwood CCG who explains more.

INTERVIEW

Please take all unused medicines back to the Pharmacy to be destroyed. You don’t have to make a special trip, just bag up any tablets, creams etc and take them back to the pharmacy next time you visit. Its so easy. Even medicines that are not on prescription and you have purchased over the counter.

About Michelle Ward

I've been part of the Phoenix FM team since August 2009 and I've been presenting the mid-morning show Eat My Brunch since October of that year. Besides being a radio presenter, I am also a singer/songwriter. Promoting unsigned music and having artists hear their music on my radio show is my passion. My show has a lot of interaction from listeners on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, who regularly join in on my Question of the Day. I get to interview local charities, businesses, organisations, singers and celebrities. I love having live music in the studio too - I’ve been lucky to have had some amazing guests over the years. The show is quirky, different, funny and honest. I don’t half ramble! Give it a try, weekdays 10am – 1pm.
