Friday Night Extra 5.8.16. Chilled Friday

We had another serving of chilled music tonight for a summer’s evening. We heard in the UAE that they have a Minister for Happiness in the government. This was very popular with listeners, with Rene e-mailing in that we need as much encouragement for happiness as possible. They also have a minister who has to be under 25 years of age to give importance to the needs of young people. Again this was considered a good idea, though it was not thought they had to be that young, just good at communicating with young people. We also heard about the idea in Norway to consider a slug hunting day to try to rid the country of the Spanish slug. This brought some interesting replies!
Tonight’s playlist.
Miles Davis – Summertime
FR David – Words
John Lodge & Justin Hayward – Blue guitar
Dusty Springfield – Windmills of your mind – the latest track featured from the album Dusty in Memphis.
Jack Savoretti – Back where I belong
Glenn Miller – Moonlight seranade – requested by Phyl
Sinatra & Jobin – The girl from Ipanema – for Alison in Lincoln, Helen in Rhodes, Gregg and Holly in Essex who liked it on my Facebook item promoting the show.
Diana Krall – Walk on by – live in Rio
Stevie Wonder – Another Star
Gumbay Dance Band – Child of the sun – requested by Patrick. I never realised they were a German band.
David Bowie Prom – Hereos – requested by Lee and David
Dolly Parton – Pure and simple
Fleetwood Mac – Albatross
Rubettes – Sugar baby love – requested by Patrick for Michael in Colchester Hospital and one of his favourite tracks.
Rick Astley – Pray with me, from his album of new material that came out this year
Elvis Presley & The London Philharmonic Orchestra – What now my love?
Zombies – Moving on
Ray Davis & The Crouch End Chorus – Days
Toto – Africa
Soweto String Quartet – Millenium – whilst this was playing Rene’s mother came into the room and asked if she was listening to a South African Radio station.
Walker Brothers – My ship is coming in
Nat King Cole – Route 66 – for Jonny Moore and the Blue Moon Quintet. If you have yet to listen to the show where they played live, please check it out.
Mary Hopkin – Those were the days – lots of listeners contacting to say they were singing along.
