Friday Night Extra 22nd July 16 with live music from the Jonny Moore Blue Moon Jazz Quintet

Blue MoonTonight we had cool jazz for a hot summer evening from Jonny, Elle, Seb and Pete from Brentwood School, the Blue Moon Jazz Quintet. The keyboards player was unable to be with us tonight. It was fantastic to have them playing live in the studio with guitar, bass guitar, drums and saxophone. They brought us a selection of their favourite tracks and Jonny explained why they had chosen them. They also selected some tracks for us as well. Listeners commented on how it was obvious how much they were enjoying the experience and they were enjoying listening. This included David, Alison, Ben and Anna listening in Orlando, Florida. Jonny said that they are available to play at weddings and other functions. The contact info is
bluemoonjazzquintet@gmail.com.

In the second hour we had a feature about Garry Marshall who passed away this week. In a career spanning over half a century Garry made people laugh and cry with a string of hit sitcoms and romantic comedies. He once estimated he was responsible for 1,000 sitcom episodes, including Happy Days, Mork & Mindy and Laverne and Shirley. Film credits include Pretty Woman, The Flamingo Kid and the Princess Diaries. We heard that videocassette recorders were finally ending production in Japan. We were amazed they were still being made. Everyone is talking about Pokémon Go. Apparently people have been wandering into the A&E Unit of the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Of course players have been asked to stay away from this “incredibly busy” A&E department.

Tonight’s playlist
Miles Davis – Summertime
Elvis Presley & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – In the ghetto
Blue Moon Jazz – Take the A train – live
Blue Moon Jazz – Night in Tunisia – live
Nathan East – Sir Duke – a favourite track of the quintet, especial bass player Pete. Nathan has made over 2,000 recordings.
