Blue Flower Café – A support group for dementia carers

The Blue Flower Café is a support group for dementia carers, run by dementia carers in the Brentwood area. It is the brainchild of Lesley, a local dementia carer, who sought the help of Essex Community Agents to get the club off the ground.

Carers can often feel isolated, as if others do not understand how their lives have changed. After a while, conversations with partners can seem a little lacking. Talking amongst a group of like-minded carers can help solve this.

Some challenges faced by carers of loved ones will have been successfully surmounted by other carers, who are happy to share their experiences. Not all problems can be solved but we can help each other a lot of the time by just talking to each other.

The purpose of the Blue Flower Café is to provide a fixed time, date and location in our diary so that dementia carers to meet on a regular basis for a chat with fellow carers, professionals and volunteers to share experiences and to help each other with the day to day problems they encounter.

All local dementia carers and their cared for loved ones are welcome to join us at the Blue Flower Café. We hope to help in many ways and maybe educate carers in some ways that they have not had to previously cope with.

We meet on the third Monday of each month for an hour and a half between 10.45am to 12.15pm at The Brentwood Theatre Café, 15 Shenfield Rd, Brentwood, CM15 8AG. The Blue Flower Café is free to attend, the Brentwood Theatre Café charge very reasonable prices for tea, coffee, etc.

Future Blue Flower Café dates are; 16th May, 20th June, 18th July, 15th August and 19th September. If these sessions are successful we will try and add another date, provisionally every 4th Wednesday of the month.

If you are interested in attending a Blue Flower Café session or would like to find out more, please contact the Right at Home (Brentwood, Billericay & Havering) office on 01277 811105 or email brentwood@rightathomeuk.com.
