The Return Of The Giant Hogweed

Brentwood residents have been advised to watch out for Giant Hogweed plants after a number of injuries were reported across the UK.

The plants, which grow on waste land by rivers, are one of the UK’s most dangerous. The plants contain poisons which causes skin to blister.

Around every river and canal their power is growing

Giant Hogweed was spotted in Hutton last year and experts say that the plant is likely to return this summer.

River Trust expert Mike Duddy explained, “If you don’t know what the plant is, it’s exceedingly dangerous. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most dangerous plant in Britain.”

The plant was immortalised in popular culture by progressive rock band Genesis who recorded “The Return Of The Giant Hogweed” on their 1971 album Nursery Crime.

People who come into contact with the plant are urged to seek medical attention immediately.
