In honour of the Oscars at the weekend, I thought I’d play songs from 80’s movies tonight!

COCKTAIL: Addicted To Love
Cocktail is a 1988 American romantic comedy-drama film starring Tom Cruise. Directed by Roger Donaldson and written by Heywood Gould, whose screenplay was based on his book of the same name.

ROCKY III – Eye of the Tiger
An 1982 American sports-drama film written, directed by, and starring Sylvester Stallone. The film’s main theme “Eye of the Tiger”, was written by the group Survivor and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

FAME – Fame
The 1980 film follows a group of students through their studies at the New York High School of Performing Arts. Won the Academy Award for Best Original Song

FOOTLOOSE is a 1984 American musical drama film directed by Herbert Ross. It tells the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town in which, as a result of the efforts of a local minister (John Lithgow), dancing and rock music have been banned.

GHOSTBUSTERS: 1984. The film stars Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd as three eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business. Sigourney. It was nominated for two Oscars at the 57th Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song (for the eponymous theme song), but lost to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Woman in Red respectively

St. Elmo’s Fire is a 1985 coming-of-age film directed by Joel Schumacher. The film, starring Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore among others, centers on a group of friends that have just graduated from Georgetown University.
