Friday Night Extra 8.1.16 In appreciation of Robert Stigwood.

On a much colder evening in Brentwood, the studio air conditioning made it feel warm. There were a number of songs in the show associated with Robert Stigwood, who passed away on Monday. He was an Australian who came to England in 1954. In the 1960s and 1970s he was one of the most successful figures in the entertainment industry, through his management of groups, theatrical productions and film productions. We also played, name the artist, where I played a well know song by an unfamiliar artist. This proved very popular with the listeners, but it was a 4-2 victory for the studio. We also heard about Congrebury in Somerset, where locals performed 800 random acts of kindness during 2015 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of St. Andrew’s church. This must be a great place to live.

Tonight’s playlist.
Booker T & MGs – Crazy – show theme
Crosby, Stills & Nash – Wasted on the way
David McWilliams – The days of Pearly Spencer
Katy Perry – Yesterday – not guessed by listeners
Cat Stevens – Lady D’Arbanville – requested by Patrick and Lee had also requested a Cat Stevens track.
Evita soundtrack – High-flying adored – Robert Stigwood connection
Georgie Fame & Van Morrison – Get on with the show
Kate Bush – The man with the child in his eyes – for Chris in Harlow listening to the show and marking English books.
Dolly Parton – Help – guested by many listeners and loved by Rene.
Kinks – Long tall Sally – their first single and requested by Michael.
Leon Bridges – River – from my album of 2015.
Acker Bilk – Stranger on the shore – requested by Phyl
Joni Mitchel – Just like this train
Bee Gees – More than a woman – from Saturday Night Fever – Robert Stigwood connection.
Olivia Newton John – Hopelessly devoted to you – from Grease – Robert Stigwood connection.
Viktor Kiraly – What’s going on – far too difficult to be guessed by anyone, but a great version of a Marvin Gaye classic.
Peter Andre – Come fly with me – surprisingly not recognised by anyone. Wrong guesses included Lionel Blair and Tony Blair!
Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street – request by Derek
Diana Krall & Michael Buble – Alone again naturally – Patrick told us the original was by Gilbert O’Sullivan and Michael Buble was recognised. Wrong guesses included Donny Osmond & Beyonce. What a combination!
Carrie Underwood – What I always wanted
Stevie Wonder – Saturn
Joe Stilgoe – Waterloo Sunset – many wrong guess to try and even the score. The studio was victorious.
Cream – White room – Robert Stigwood connection.

Join me next week when my guest is Hieke Prentice, who is training for the ministry in the Church of England.
