Friday Night Extra 18.12.15. Non-stop Christmas

Driving past the daffodils in bloom outside the Brentwood Centre, it is hard to believe we are a week from Christmas Day. Nikki had set the tone with two hours of Christmas tracks and I continued with a selection that included a number of unusual items. At the end of the show I had e-mails thanking me for the selection. We had some news stories, including a Secret Santa putting £100 through the door of someone that enabled her go and buy toys for her children. A 12 year old girl had regularly been buying gifts for a refuge since last Christmas and had given over 200 items. Bishop John Santamu had suggested a no mobile phones day on Christmas Day. A church in Berlin is having a Star Wars themed service on Sunday! In Australia hundreds of Santas set a record for the largest surf lesson. We also had a number of terrible Christmas themed jokes. Listeners loved it when I played well known Christmas tunes, but they had to guess the artist. We had some odd guesses! I mean, very odd guesses! Join me on Boxing Day morning, live from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on New Year’s Day, live from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Now there is dedication to PhoenixFM and the listeners.

Tonight’s playlist,
Mike Oldfield – In dulci jubilo
Annie Lennox – Universal child
Cee Lo Green – What Christmas means to me
U2 – I believe in Father Christmas – for Patrick and loved by listeners.
Diana Krall – Christmas time is here
Carpenters – Merry Christmas darling
Maddie Prior & Carnival Band – God rest ye merry gentlemen – requested by Phyl
Sinead O’Connor – Silent night – loved by Rene
Cliff Richard – Saviours Day – I remember children singing along and swaying like a football crowd to this at a school disco in 1990.
Harry Belafonte – Mary’s boy child – when did you last hear this track?
Matthew West – Heart of Christmas
Bellowhead – Christmas bells – loved by Jackie who has seen them live.
Nat King Cole – Christmas song
Enya – O come o come Emmanuel.
Overtones – Good old fashioned Christmas
Casting Crowns – Sweet little Jesus boy
Carly Rae Jepson – Last Christmas – no listener recognised the singer
NHS Choir – Bridge over you
Lady Antebellum – Baby please come home
Peter Andre – Let it snow – shock from listeners that he can sing so well!
Leanne ReAmes – We need a little Christmas
Pentatonix – That’s Christmas to me
Mandisa – Its Christmas
Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra – White Christmas.
